Geoffrey Clifton-Brown was fairly scathing about the Lib-Dems and what they say on their leaflets outside parliament but made very clear that the central issue of parliamentary privilege was vital, noting that with power came responsibility not to, for example, over use it or comment on matters sub judice. In AV, for example, Lib Dems in Britain may have offered a superior electoral scheme, but it was so abstruse they could barely understand it themselves, let alone explain it to others. [read post]

At moment the only one that seems to have much chance is Lab-Lib coalition possibly led by someone other than Gordon Brown; with Libs having Treasury, Home or Justice and one of the "socials" [cabinet portfolios]; Lab the rest + promise of referendum on PR [proportional representation] in time for it to be operated for next election. Especially since Brown presumably will make the case to the LibDems that they should join a Lib-Lab coalition so as to get at least half a loaf via the proposed referendum.The Tories would be foolish to agree to any change that doesn't create a truly level playing field. [read post]
